EigenLayer is a protocol built on Ethereum that introduces restaking, allowing users who stake ETH natively to join EigenLayer's smart contracts and restake their ETH. This extends cryptoeconomic security to other applications on the network. As a platform, EigenLayer raises assets from LSD asset holders on one side, and uses these raised LSD assets as collateral on the other to provide middleware, sidechains, and rollups with Active Verification Services (AVS). The convenient and low-cost AVS itself facilitates the matching of services between LSD providers and those requiring AVS, with dedicated staking service providers handling specific staking services.
