Kraken User Suffers 8,600+ ETH Social Engineering Theft, Funds Sent to HitBTC
A Kraken user associated with wallet address 0xC551…acA21 recently fell victim to a sophisticated social engineering attack, resulting in the theft of over 8,600 ETH. Blockchain security firm PeckShieldAlert reported the incident, detailing that the attacker initially bridged approximately $1.7 million in ETH through Thorchain before transferring it to the HitBTC exchange. Subsequently, an additional 5,347.9 ETH was deposited into HitBTC, bringing the total stolen to over 8,600 ETH. This significant security breach underscores the persistent threats posed by social engineering tactics within the cryptocurrency ecosystem, prompting renewed calls for enhanced user vigilance and platform security measures.
