Kraken customer loses 8,662 ETH in social-engineering scam; stolen funds sent to HitBTC

A Kraken user appears to have been hit by a social-engineering attack, with 8,662 ETH stolen—worth about $18.19 million—according to on-chain analyst Ember (@EmberCN). The attacker later swapped 878 ETH for 26.5 BTC through the THORChain cross-chain bridge, then about six hours afterward moved the full haul—7,784 ETH plus 26.5 BTC—to the HitBTC exchange.
