Samourai Wallet domain reportedly hijacked by scammers after FBI seizure
CryptoSlate reported that the official domain for Bitcoin privacy wallet Samourai Wallet has been taken over by scammers after an FBI seizure and is now hosting a phishing page aimed at luring users into downloading malware that can steal crypto assets.
The FBI seized the domain in August 2025, when it initially displayed a banner reading, "This website has been seized." Screenshots dated March 22, 2026 show the site back online, with Samourai Wallet's branding and page content fully cloned. The registrar is NameCheap, and the registrant details are shielded by privacy-protection services, obscuring the current owner's identity.
X user @econoalchemist first flagged the issue, warning: "Scammers have taken control of this domain—do not download any software." Multiple users have since tagged NameCheap on X calling for action, with no response reported so far.
Samourai Wallet launched in 2015 as a privacy-focused Bitcoin wallet, offering tools including CoinJoin mixing, Whirlpool, Ricochet and PayNym. In 2024, the U.S. Department of Justice filed a case alleging money laundering and operating an unlicensed money-transmitting business, claiming more than $2 billion in illicit transfers.
