WTI’s >7% plunge pushes NY raw sugar and London white sugar to 1-week lows
New York world sugar #11 and London ICE white sugar #5 fell to 1-week lows on Monday as WTI crude oil tumbled more than 7%, weighing on ethanol economics and encouraging more cane to be processed into sugar. Improving monsoon rainfall has lifted expectations for Indian output, adding to the downside. At the same time, potential El Niño-driven dryness could curb cane harvests in Brazil, India and Thailand. Forecasts for the 2026/27 global sugar balance diverge between the ISO and the USDA.

Cocoa futures slide to three-week lows as global supply builds
September ICE New York cocoa (CCU26) fell 5.13% in a single session, while September ICE London cocoa #7 (CAU26) dropped 4.68%, both hitting three-week lows. The selloff followed signs of rising global availability, including Ivory Coast port arrivals of 2.11 MMT for the current marketing year, up 21% year on year. Nigeria’s June cocoa exports rose 30% y/y to 18,922 MT, and ICE cocoa inventories climbed to a two-year high of 3,361,752 bags. While El Niño risks and expectations of a smaller 2026/27 crop offer longer-term support, near-term oversupply pressured prices.

STMicroelectronics shares tumble over 20% after forecasting $3.7 billion in Q3 revenue
STMicroelectronics cut its Q3 revenue outlook to $3.7 billion, $100 million below its prior expectation, sparking concerns that semiconductor demand is weakening and sending the stock down more than 20% over two sessions. The warning overshadowed a solid Q2, in which revenue came in at $3.49 billion, EPS was $0.31 versus a $0.27 consensus estimate, and free cash flow turned positive. While the company counts customers such as Tesla, Apple, SpaceX and AWS, the lowered guidance remains a clear near-term negative catalyst for the shares.
