Bitcoin hovers near $65,000 as weekend range eyes $70,000 upside or $60,000 downside amid Hormuz risk
Bitcoin was trading around $65,000 ahead of the weekend as macro tailwinds and headwinds pulled in opposite directions. A softer-than-expected U.S. jobs report, including a combined 103,000 downward revision to May and June, pushed Treasury yields and the dollar lower as markets trimmed the odds of a September Fed hike. At the same time, rising tensions around the Strait of Hormuz renewed worries about inflation returning via higher energy prices. U.S.-listed spot Bitcoin ETFs took in $763.7 million this week, the fastest pace of inflows since April.

Bitcoin faces potential chain split at block 961,632 as Knots nodes begin rejecting non-signaling blocks
Bitcoin faces the risk of a BIP-110 soft fork activation, a proposal designed to cap the amount of arbitrary data that can be included in transactions. Activation requires a 55% threshold, but as of Thursday only 2.56% of blocks signaled support. About 22.65% of nodes run the Knots client and are expected to start rejecting blocks without a specific signal beginning at block height 961,632, raising the possibility that enforcement by a minority could still trigger a network split. With Bitcoin’s market cap around $1.3 trillion, any fork would introduce significant uncertainty.

Ethereum apps generated $1.79 billion in Q2 2026 fees, while the base layer kept $88.4 million as ETH stayed below $2,000
In the second quarter of 2026, applications on Ethereum generated about $1.79 billion in fees, but the base layer retained only $88.4 million, or 4.9%, widening the gap in value capture. ETH has remained below $2,000, roughly 60% off its 2025 all-time high. Only around 0.22 ETH was burned via blob fees over a recent seven-day period, weakening the earlier “ultrasound money” narrative. Even so, institutional activity on Ethereum continues to expand, contrasting with the token’s muted price performance.

Ether.fi splits restaking from weETH, shifts exposure to new token weETHs
Ether.fi said it has restructured its token design by fully separating restaking from its main token, weETH. Under the change, weETH becomes a plain Ethereum staking token that reflects only base staking yield, without restaking-related risk or returns. The restaking exposure is moved to a newly introduced token, weETHs. Ether.fi said the move is intended to give investors clearer product choices based on different risk preferences, positioning weETH as a simpler yield instrument.
