Virtuals Protocol said it is shifting more than $700m of VIRTUAL token cross-chain infrastructure from LayerZero to Chainlink CCIP. The project said the decision followed a full security review and makes Chainlink CCIP its exclusive interoperability provider after the LayerZero-related incident tied to KelpDAO's rsETH bridge setup.

Visa has started a proof-of-concept with stablecoin infrastructure provider Brale to test private, blockchain-based settlement for institutional payment flows using the SBC stablecoin on the Canton Network. The project evaluates whether privacy-preserving infrastructure can deliver faster, more programmable settlement while supporting institutional privacy, compliance, and operational controls.

Mastercard has expanded its settlement infrastructure to include regulated stablecoins, adding Ripple's RLUSD alongside USDC, PYUSD, USDG, USDP and SoFiUSD. Coinbase Ventures purchased Ethena’s ENA token on the open market as Coinbase and Ethena prepare to roll out new onchain finance and digital savings offerings. Ethena said an initial growth initiative is expected to launch next week and could make its products available to Coinbase’s user base of more than 100 million people. The update comes as Ethena reported USDe supply above $1B and outlined recent expansion across Solana and multiple partner venues.

A group of 160 former national security, intelligence, and law enforcement professionals has backed the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act of 2025, urging Senate leaders to move the bill forward. The letter argues crypto oversight should be treated as a national security issue and warns that activity could shift offshore if U.S. rules remain unclear. The measure previously cleared the House 294-134 in July 2025 and advanced out of the Senate Banking Committee 15-9 on May 14.

Tether and Fasset say they have launched the world's first gold-backed neobanking Visa card, letting users pay merchants globally while earning tokenized gold via cashback and auto round-ups. The product offers up to 6% cashback paid in XAUT and is backed by up to $1 million in XAUT rewards at launch. Users convert XAUT to USDT and then to fiat at checkout, while Fasset targets its $32 billion annualized-volume user base across Asia and Africa.
