Bitcoin slips under $80,300 support as Ali Martinez flags leverage risk
Bitcoin rallied from below $75,000 after last week's FOMC meeting to nearly $83,000 on May 6, then pulled back by more than $3,000. Analyst Ali Martinez says BTC is now trading below $80,300, a level he describes as a key support tied to the average cost basis of new whales from the past 155 days. He also warned that futures leverage has climbed to its highest level in almost a year, raising the risk of liquidation-driven volatility.

Lagarde Rejects U.S.-Style Stablecoins, Backs ECB Appia Plan for 2028 Settlements
ECB President Christine Lagarde argued that private stablecoins are not an effective tool for boosting the euro's global role and said the euro should remain the regulated settlement asset. She warned that yield-bearing structures tied to U.S. government bonds could drive capital flows the ECB cannot control, and pointed to past depegging episodes such as USDC during the SVB collapse. The ECB is instead advancing Project Pontes and the Appia roadmap, targeting 2028 for tokenized-asset settlement using central bank money rather than private tokens.

CLARITY Act Stablecoin Fight Intensifies as Bank Groups Push Back on Section 404
Five major U.S. banking trade associations are urging lawmakers to reject the CLARITY Act's stablecoin compromise as the Senate prepares a committee markup for the week of May 11 and aims to send the bill to President Trump before July 4. The groups argue Section 404 still allows exchanges to provide rewards tied to tenure, balances, or holding periods, and cite estimates including a potential 20% hit to lending capacity and a $300 billion deposit flight risk by 2028.
