Grayscale Head of Research Zach Pandl says a Google Quantum AI paper is compressing the expected timeline for quantum machines to threaten classical cryptography, pushing public blockchains to prepare now. In his note, he highlights the XRP Ledger and Solana as early networks testing post-quantum cryptography, alongside a migration timeline pointing to 2029.

The Solana Foundation said it launched ecosystem-wide security initiatives on Monday, funding programs led by Asymmetric Research. The rollout includes STRIDE, which evaluates Solana projects and publishes results, plus SIRN, a membership network that prioritizes access based on TVL and includes firms such as OtterSec and Neodyme.

On April 6, 2026, the Solana Foundation and Asymmetric Research introduced STRIDE, a tiered security initiative for Solana-based DeFi protocols that emphasizes continuous evaluations, threat monitoring, and formal verification. Protocols with more than $10 million in TVL can receive foundation-funded 24/7 monitoring, while those above $100 million in TVL may qualify for formal verification. The rollout follows the Drift Protocol exploit on April 1, 2026, when $286 million was taken in 12 minutes.

Drift's post-mortem said the attackers spent months building trust after first contacting the team at a major crypto conference in October 2025 and planned the operation for six months before executing it.

Bitcoin and Ethereum moved mostly sideways over the week, while Solana lagged, as traders weighed risk-off macro signals alongside crypto-specific threats. Market watchers flagged Bitcoin's 200-week moving average near $59k and realized price around $54k, while a Google quantum research paper claimed a 20x advance that could affect elliptic-curve cryptography used by major blockchains. In DeFi, a $260M–$285M exploit on Drift Protocol reignited debate over response speed and stablecoin controls, alongside broader disputes about centralization in networks such as Canton and Solana's consensus design.
